In My Dreams, Or Among The RainClouds
(words by Shannon Hall)

All the millions of years we were never supposed to be with, trapped in the light years of reaching beams—traveling down a dark sky, without a word of worlds past. Swamping beats, fulfilling their specific moments, and then dying out like the last note of a light-hearted scherzo.
Crushed continents, you have built up so much for yourself, I can never feel as tall as you. The mist which graces your head like a halo of purpose has not found me. Yet, in proximity to the ground, I feel high. Through the night, I turned, left and right and away from my own halo, which cushions my sleepless head, because your majesty rings in greater violence around me. I wish to climb the greatest heights, which you offer me only in distant sights, but your ridges cut me through, as if to promise me… promise me… please promise… I will not live without your grandeur. And promise me… promise you will use the edge of your rock structure to slice my dying cells open and fill me with your unexplained interiors and exteriors.
Rise, rise, rise like the tide of the sea, and the growling of a faint storm.
Build, build, build like the steep ranges of a compressed and pushed up landscape.
Fall, fall, fall like the heartbeats of my trickling veins.
I have carved something into your body, a map, of sorts, of what I wish to accomplish after glancing endlessly at you—hieroglyphs of my helplessness, but also the hopefulness of my end.
If I were forever stuck, between ever-colliding rocks, I would feel whole with broken body. I would feel whole. Wholly apart of what you have to offer, although my physical vessel could no longer breathe you in.
You have successfully stirred me from slumber, eternally. The closing of my lids gives me a sense of fear, like I’ll never be able to view you again. And even dreams, dreams of you, will never do you justice. For the physical sight of you is greater than any imagined scene I could wish to conjure. You are an impossible reality, because the vastness of your shape is surreal.
The sharpness of your peaks is softer than any human skin. And my skin wishes to dry out, crack, and break for you. If I could live outside of myself for one day, clones of my soul would cascade down your arêtes and cirques, and I would fan out into the flecks of gold you have graciously deposited.
I do not wish to dilute the unseen.
I do not wish to know the name of any song.
Black goes with everything
Even the blue leaking out of the sky
The rolling thoughts can be heard
Inside the head of thunder
Linking arms with the walking storm,
It shares thoughts loudly in its own layers.
Black goes with everything
The morning sun knows
That night must trail
Just as the clean sky knows
It smells like the dark ink of storm clouds
Being drawn on its cerulean canvas

This is the third full length album I've released. It is a recollection and a reflection of the past two years of my life that focuses on different aspects of my life, but also the general struggle people go through year to year trying to find our place in this world. I put a lot of myself into it so I hope you enjoy it!

First and foremost I'd like to thank Shannon Hall. She's a beautifully talented writer and collaborated with me on the feelings and themes of the album. She wrote the writing above for 'In My Dreams Or Among The Rainclouds', and all of the spoken word heard on the album. Thank you so much, Shannon. This album wouldn't have been the same without you.

Here's a link to her writings and poetry:

Next I'd like to thank Turner McDougal, who played drums on the album. You rock, man. Thank you for somehow coming up with and recording what I wanted to hear in two extremely hot, sweaty, summer jam sessions. I always love having you help out and you're an extremely talented musician.

Thanks to Tim Ross for letting me use his electric bass for the album and for recording a bit of Upright Bass with me.

Thanks to Stephen Stone for drawing out another album title (sorry there always so long..) and for helping me with the album cover as a whole. Also, thanks to Ryan Strait for the original Redwood Willow Logo.

Lastly, I just want to thank all my friends <3

-S.
